First, Dr. Margaret McGuire will prepare your tooth by removing any decay and shaping it to receive the crown. Instead of using traditional impression materials that can trigger your gag reflex, we use a small digital camera to capture detailed 3D images of your tooth.
These images are instantly uploaded to our computer system, where specialized software creates a precise digital model of your tooth. Dr. McGuire then designs your custom CEREC crown on the computer, carefully considering your bite, the shape of surrounding teeth, and your natural tooth color.
The CAD/CAM Difference
CAD/CAM stands for Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing. This technology represents the perfect marriage of artistry and precision engineering.
Once your crown design is complete, the digital file is sent to our in-office milling machine. Using a solid block of high-quality ceramic material, this sophisticated equipment carves your crown to exact specifications. The entire milling process typically takes about 10–15 minutes.
